La Femme est pleine de contrastes et d'ambiguïtés. Marche dans la rue ou ivresse sur la plage? Navigation cold wave ou surf music? Apologie de l'été ou critique de son côté superficiel ? Second degré ou adolescence ?
On peut aussi ne pas se poser trop de questions et comprendre que leurs chansons sont supers justement parce qu'elles mélangent des atmosphères très éloignées. Ils sont jeunes et viennent de Paris et Biarritz, et savent aussi bien faire du mystère à l'ancienne, de la froideur des années 1980 et une sorte d'hédonisme provocant. Voila maintenant on sait qu'on peut surfer habillé en noir, pas de problèmes, merci La Femme. La Femme (which means "the women" in French) is a band full of ambiguities. Is their music like a walk in the streets or a race on the beach ? A cold wave or a surf music navigation ? A summer apologia or a criticism of its superficiality ?
Though, maybe it's better not to ask too much question and to understand that La Femme's songs are great because of these ambiguities. They're pretty young (20 years old), from Paris and Biarritz and they manage to mix eclectic atmospheres and they go pop. Some old school mystery, coldness from the 1980's and a kind of provocative hedonism. Now you know that you can go surfing dressed in black, no problem.
